Preliminary Analysis of ELF Noise
نویسنده
چکیده
Preliminary results of analyzing extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic noise recorded in Florida and Malta are presented. The results include wideband waveforms, power density spectra, amplitude probability distributions and probability distributions for the duration of the interval between noise bursts. The distinctly non-Gaussian nature of the noise is demonstrated in a variety of ways. Accepted for the Air Force Franklin C. Hudson Chief, Lincoln Laboratory Office

Effect of Underwater Ambient Noise on Quadraphase Phase-shift Keying Acoustic Sensor Network Links in Extremely Low Frequency Band
This study evaluates the impact of underwater ambient noise using seven real noise samples; Dolphin, Rain, Ferry, Sonar, Bubbles, Lightning, and Outboard Motor in three frequency ranges in extremely low frequency (ELF) band. The ELF band is the most significant bandwidth for underwater long-range communication. ELF band which is extended from 3 to 3000 Hz clearly, faces bandwidth limitation. Me...
متن کاملInitial Results from SQUID Sensor: Analysis and Modeling for the ELF/VLF Atmospheric Noise
In this paper, the amplitude probability density (APD) of the wideband extremely low frequency (ELF) and very low frequency (VLF) atmospheric noise is studied. The electromagnetic signals from the atmosphere, referred to herein as atmospheric noise, was recorded by a mobile low-temperature superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) receiver under magnetically unshielded conditions. In ...
متن کاملElectrochemical Noise Analysis of Anaerobic (Bacterial) Corrosion of Steel
Corrosion of structural steel in an SRB containing environment for as long as 9 months, is studied using the Electrochemical Noise Analysis technique. The results show that the activity of the system, which was very low initially, started to increase after 6 months exposure to the environment. The power spectral density curves of the Electrochemical Potential Noise of the system, using the maxi...
متن کاملA Novel Detection Method for Underwater Moving Targets by Measuring Their ELF Emissions with Inductive Sensors
In this article, we propose a novel detection method for underwater moving targets by detecting their extremely low frequency (ELF) emissions with inductive sensors. The ELF field source of the targets is modeled by a horizontal electric dipole at distances more than several times of the targets' length. The formulas for the fields produced in air are derived with a three-layer model (air, seaw...
متن کاملULF/ELF emissions observed in Japan, possibly associated with the Chi-Chi earthquake in Taiwan
ULF/ELF emission observation has been performed at Nakatsugawa observatory (geographic coordinates; 35.4 N, 137.5 E, Gifu prefecture) since January 1999. The equipment consists of three-orthogonal magnetic sensors (induction coils), amplifiers, A/D converters and the data logger with a computer. The frequency range of observation is from 0.001 Hz to 50 Hz. The serious changes in ELF magnetic fi...
